五行学说是建立在哲学思辨基础上的一般规律,由于人体生理、病理的特殊性,《内经》对五行学说的运用是有变化的,这主要体现在:就五行与五藏的配位来说,《内经》采取的是性质配位法,即根据五藏的生理性质与五行进行匹配;探索五藏的生理功能时不受四时五行性质的局限;包含了五行五藏的思想的萌芽;五行同行间灵活的"通应思想";灵活的疾病传变思想;提出了五行乘侮、五行胜复的思想。《内经》运用五行学说而不拘于五行学说,在一定程度上克服了机械应用五行学说的局限性。
