《内经》认为,癫狂可因实邪而导致,也有因本虚而诱发。从实来说,阳热亢盛,上扰神明;七情郁结,五志过极。从虚来说,阳气虚衰,神失所养;气血虚弱,神无所化;心肾气虚,神无所藏。所以在辨治上,不必拘泥于癫与狂症状的不同而分开论治,唯从虚实论治即可。

The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic holds that the causes of mania could be excess pathogens or deficiency. In terms of excess pathogen,exuberance of yang heat disturbs the spirit,leading to stagnation of seven emotions stagnation,and overacting of the five minds;in terms of deficiency,yang deficiency causes malnutrition of spirit;deficiency of qi and blood leads to no resource for generation of spirit;deficiency of heart qi and kidney qi leads to no residency of the spirit. Therefore,the treatment should be given in terms of the deficiency and excess pathogen,and it is no need to distinguish the hypo- and hyper types.
